Russian truckers return to Belarus after facing road blockages in Ukraine

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – Trucks with Russian license plates are returning to Belarus after facing road blockages in Ukraine, spokesman for the Belarusian State Border Committee Alexander Tishchenko told BelTA.

“The Russian trucks that have not managed to make their way to the European Union through the territory of Ukraine due to the blocked roads, are returning to Belarus,” Alexander Tishchenko said.

A couple of days ago, Ukrainian activists announced their plans to stop all trucks with Russian license plates in several Ukraine's regions. Their activities caused many kilometers of truck traffic jams. As a retaliatory measure, Russia has banned Ukrainian trucks from driving within its territory.

Issues related to the movement of Russian cargoes in Ukraine remain unsettled. The Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry has suggested holding daily meetings of the rapid response staff that includes representatives of the Economic Development Ministry, the State Fiscal Service, the State Border Guard Service, the National Police and other agencies concerned. Besides, Ukraine is holding technical consultations with representatives of the European Commission and some EU countries.
