Lukashenko underlines importance of Russia’s efforts to strengthen EAEU partnership

MOSCOW, 8 May (BelTA) – Active efforts of the Russian Federation to build up partnership within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union have never been more important. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement at a session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Moscow on 8 May, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed: “Active efforts of the Russian Federation to advance and strengthen our partnership have never been more important.”

He remarked that the member states had approached the tenth anniversary of the Eurasian Economic Union with certain accomplishments. “Our union is still quite young but a lot of strength, energy, and money has already been invested in it. We are responsible for its further development for the benefit of our nations and for it becoming a true pole of economic attraction in the modern world. I am absolutely convinced that we can do it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.

The president also seized the occasion to congratulate participants of the summit on another anniversary of the heroic Victory of the Soviet nation in the Great Patriotic War: “I’d like to congratulate all of us. Wish peace, wellbeing, and prosperity to our countries.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko thanked President of Russia Vladimir Putin and the Russian side as a whole for the warm welcome and for the excellent organization of the summit. “It is your first major international conference [after inauguration the day before]. And certainly we will not fail you in this regard,” the Belarusian leader assured.
