Makei: Belarus ready to offer best opportunities to UK business

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to provide the UK business with the best possible opportunities, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media following the negotiations with Alan Duncan, Minister of State for Europe and the Americas at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, on 26 September, BelTA has learned.

“We are open for cooperation with the United Kingdom in all fields and all sectors of the economy. We are ready to provide the UK business with the most favorable opportunities in case it wants to set up some manufacturing facilities in Belarus: in free economic zones, in the Belarus-China industrial park Great Stone. This will help the UK business to enter a consumer market of the Eurasian Economic Union with the population of 180 million,” Vladimir Makei noted.

Belarus believes that there are real opportunities for many mutually beneficial projects in petrochemistry, industry, and information technologies. “We have talked a lot about the need to intensify our cooperation in banking in light of the fact that London is one of the world's most important financial centers. In my opinion, we have not seized a number of opportunities yet. We should take advantage of them,” the minister emphasized.

Special focus was put on Belarus' cooperation with several European financial and economic institutions. “We have asked to help us with some matters related to cooperation with those organizations with which we have certain problems for the time being. I think that we have completely achieved mutual understanding,” Vladimir Makei underlined.

“Strengthening Belarus' economy will help strengthen our political independence. I think, this goal is of mutual interest for the European Union, the UK, and Belarus,” the diplomat added.
