Number of examples of Belarus-Russia constructive, fruitful cooperation expected to increase

MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – The number of examples of constructive and fruitful cooperation with Russia will only increase. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko made the relevant statement on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.

Speaking about cooperation with Russia, Roman Golovchenko remarked that there are many spheres where joint efforts can be exercised. “In particular, those are joint R&D efforts in microelectronics, machine tools production, engine production. Together with Russia we have determined a list of critical technologies that we need to master in order to replace those we used before. Concrete projects and commercial contracts are being developed in each of these areas,” he said.

“We’ve achieved huge accomplishments in the sphere of transport. What Belarus and Russia have accomplished together over slightly less than 1.5 years means a lot. The redirection of such huge freight flows means a lot. Belarusian commercial entities have recently signed an agreement on setting up a new port terminal in Russia’s Murmansk Oblast with access to the Northern Sea Route,” the prime minister added. “After getting access to the Northern Sea Route, to the Arctic Ocean we will have free access to the world ocean regardless of how events around the Baltic Sea and so on unfold. Belarusian freight dispatchers will have free access both to the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. I am convinced that the number of examples of such constructive and fruitful cooperation will only grow larger.”

“Even if the sanctions-fueled pressure decreases or diminishes due to some reasons, we understand (and our Russian colleagues share the view) that we will rely purely on our own strengths. We have learned our lesson. We know for sure what we are going to do in the near future and we will not turn away from this path of self-sufficiency that we’ve chosen,” the head of government stressed.
