MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Hungary will exchange best practices in government regulation of the nuclear industry, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The matter was discussed at the meeting between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Hungary Alexander Khainovsky and Director General of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA) Gyula Fichtinger.
“The parties discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in nuclear power engineering and agreed to exchange best practices in government regulation of this industry,” the press service said. Alexander Khainovsky and Gyula Fichtinger also talked over the results of the recent visit of the HAEA Director General to Belarus and the talks at the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry.
BelTA reported earlier that in late March 2016, a Hungarian delegation led by Gyula Fichtinger met with Belarusian nuclear specialists who were interested to study Hungary's law enforcement practices in order to improve the nuclear and radiation safety regulation system. Besides, they were interested in the legislation and the practice of public debates conducted before issuing nuclear industry operation licenses. For their part, the Hungarian specialists were eager to study the Belarusian experience of overseeing the construction of the nuclear power plant.
