On 16 September, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko visited the mausoleum of Uzbekistan's first President Islam Karimov in Samarkand. Islam Karimov led the country from independence in 1991 until his death in 2016. In 1990-1992 he served as the head of government of Uzbekistan.
