GRODNO, 3 February (BelTA) - Mongolian arrows, Byzantine amphorae, and French soldiers' buttons: nearly 600 artifacts from the Golshany Archaeological Complex are on display at a unique exhibition in the Oshmyany Local Lore Museum, BelTA learned from the museum.

The project, prepared by the museum in collaboration with the Institute of History at the National Academy of Sciences, invites viewers on a journey through the centuries.

The exhibition titled as In Search of Time Lost features nearly 600 artifacts: pieces from the excavations of the Golshany Archaeological Complex, which includes an 11th–16th century settlement, three other settlements, and a number of burial mounds. These exhibits offer a comprehensive insight into the history of Golshany and its surroundings from the 5th to the 19th centuries.
“The results of the excavations on the Golshany complex are truly astonishing: here, we have found 5th-century Hunnic arrows, artifacts related to the culture of the burial mounds, 10th–11th century glass bracelets and belt fittings, mid-13t century Mongol arrows, remains of a Byzantine amphora, and much more. The exhibition concludes with a section dedicated to the war of 1812: bullets, shako plates, buttons from the French and Russian armies, shrapnel… All of these are evidence of battles in the vicinity of Golshany,” museum director Anastasia Novitskaya said.

For nearly 20 years, alongside specialists, students from the Golshany secondary school have been participating in the excavations. The school hosts the historical and archaeological camp Centaurs.

The exhibition will be on display at the museum until 15 May.
