Three Belarusians among Top 10 in sprint at Commonwealth Biathlon Cup

MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) - Three Belarusian biathletes have placed within the top ten in the sprint event at the first stage of the 2025/26 Commonwealth Cup, which is currently underway in Sochi, Russia, BelTA has learned.

At the initial stage, athletes are competing in summer biathlon on roller skis. The Sochi tournament's program opened with the women's 7.5km sprint. The top finisher for the Belarusian team was Hanna Sola, who, despite three penalty loops, placed eighth, finishing 53 seconds behind the winner, Natalia Shevchenko of Russia. Russian athletes Anastasia Khalili and Anastasia Grishina took second and third places, respectively.

Making it into the top ten were also Belarusian biathletes Irina Shakleina and Dzinara Smolskaya. Kseniia Varabei finished in the top 20, Alina Zaitsava came in 22nd, and Hanna Pestsiarava was right behind her. Darya Kudayeva placed 32nd, Alena Kulak 34th, Viktoryia Shashkova 35th, and Hanna Makarskaya 40th out of 46 competitors.

The men's sprint at the first stage of the Commonwealth Biathlon Cup will be held on 5 September. Single mixed relay events are scheduled for Saturday, with pursuit races due on 7 September.
