MINSK, January 14 (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis player Aliaksandra Sasnovich has reached the final round of the Australian Open qualifying tournament, BelTA has learned.
On 14 January, in her second qualifying round match, the Belarusian world No.102 defeated Liechtenstein’s Kathinka von Deichmann (No.258) with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). In the final qualifying round for a spot in the Australian Open main draw, Sasnovich will face Ukraine’s Daria Snigur (No.136). In her opening match of the tournament, Aliaksandra Sasnovich defeated France’s Ksenia Efremova (No.577) in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.
Another Belarusian tennis player, Iryna Shymanovich (No.153), is scheduled to play against Spain’s Marina Bassols Ribera (No.236) on 14 January. The day before, the Belarusian secured a three-set victory over Australia’s Arina Rodionova (No.207), 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 6-4. To secure a spot in the main draw of the Australian Open, the players need to win three qualifying matches.
The main draw of the Australian Open will be held on 18 January – 1 February. The total prize money for the season’s first Grand Slam tournament amounts to approximately $7.7 million.
