Pekarski triumphs at Strongest Athletes Swimming Cup; Belarus claims over 50 medals

 

MINSK, 24 November (BelTA) – The Minsk International Standard Swimming Pool hosted the final events of the international tournament Strongest Athletes Swimming Cup, BelTA has learned.

The last day of the tournament on 23 November featured 14 medal events. Belarusian swimmer Anastasiya Shkurdai claimed victory in the women’s 200m backstroke (2:02.05), earning her third title at this home tournament. Another gold was won by Grigori Pekarski in the men’s 50m butterfly with a time of 22.39 seconds.
The Belarusian team continued its success with silver medals from Anastasiya Kuliashova (100m butterfly), Aleksei Rylko  (100m medley), and Valeriya Shilko (100m breaststroke). Bronze medals were awarded to Ilya Shymanovich (200m breaststroke), Danila Bokhurau (100m medley), Stanislau Markouski (100m backstroke), Marharyta Kalistratava (200m backstroke), and Vladislava Shayenko (200m freestyle). The Belarusian relay quartets contributed two more silvers and two bronzes to the final tally.
Overall, the Belarusian team won a total of 53 medals: 5 gold, 21 silver, and 27 bronze. The tournament saw participation from about 500 athletes representing 11 nations, including medalists from Russia, Hungary, South Africa, and Kazakhstan. Athletes from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and China also competed in the tournament.
