Hanna Karaliova to compete in Olympic classic sprint on 10 February

MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – Belarusian cross-country skier Hanna Karaliova will compete in the women’s sprint classic at the XXV Olympic Games in Italy on 10 February, BelTA has learned. 

The qualification round begins at 11:15 Minsk time, with 89 athletes vying for a top-thirty finish to advance to the quarterfinals, which start at 13:45. The favorites for the gold medal are reigning world and Olympic champion Jonna Sundling (Sweden) and world championship medalist Kristine Stavås Skistad (Norway).

This World Cup season, Hanna Karaliova has finished 46th and 53rd in her two classic sprint appearances. She has recently placed 34th in the 20km skiathlon on the Tesero Olympic track. Hanna Karaliova will conclude her Olympic campaign with the interval start free on 12 February.

A total of 2,900 athletes from 94 countries are participating in these Winter Games. The Belarusian delegation includes Marina Zueva (speed skating), Viktoriia Safonova (figure skating), Maria Shkanova (alpine skiing), Hanna Huskova, Anna Derugo, and Anastasiya Andryianava (aerials). The XXV Winter Olympic Games will be running till 22 February.
