MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) – Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus Ksenia Sankovich and Chairwoman of the Belarusian Swimming Federation Olga Stepus have met with European Aquatics President Antonio Silva, the press service of Belarus’ NOC told BelTA.

During the meeting at the headquarters of Belarus’ National Olympic Committee, the parties discussed the development of cooperation in swimming and other aquatic sports, the conditions for Belarusian athletes to perform at international competitions, and possible avenues for joint projects.

“Your visit to our country is very important for Belarusian athletes and the entire swimming community. We need to maintain and develop dialogue and boost cooperation in these difficult conditions. We welcome the decision to allow Belarusian and Russian athletes to participate in international competitions, including team sports. We see this decision as an important step towards restoring our full participation in competitions on the international arena,” Ksenia Sankovich said.

“I met with the chairwoman of the Belarusian Swimming Federation at the World Championships in Singapore and we agreed to advance our relations. I am here to discuss all matters related to the development of aquatic sports. I support the idea that athletes should not suffer from political decisions, and we will consider plans for cooperation with the Belarusian side. I prefer deeds over words. We are ready to provide your federation with comprehensive support,” Antonio Silva noted.

The European Aquatics delegation will visit a new world class swimming pool in Minsk and the Brest Oblast Center for Aquatic Sports next.
