
MINSK, 6 August (BelTA) – World No. 119 Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus saw her campaign at the WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open come to an early end, suffering a defeat in the qualifying rounds, BelTA reports.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich fell 6-7 (4-7), 4-6 to U. S. Whitney Osuigwe (No. 149) in a hard-fought opening qualifier. Whitney Osuigwe advances to face Spain's Cristina Bucșa (No. 96) in the final qualifying round.
Defending champion and current world No. 1, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, will open her title defense in the second round against either Czech Markéta Vondroušová (No. 63) or Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian (No. 52).
The 2024 edition saw Aryna Sabalenka defeat U. S. Jessica Pegula in the final. Earlier, Victoria Azarenka had taken the Cincinnati title twice - in 2013 and 2020.
