MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) - Negotiations between President of the NOC of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko and IOC President Kirsty Coventry took place in the format of a video conference, BelTA learned from the press service of the NOC of Belarus.
The head of the NOC of Belarus noted that the Belarusian sport is going through one of the most difficult periods in its history. The restrictions have affected not only top-level athletes but also young athletes. Viktor Lukashenko underscored the need to keep politics out of sports, voicing hope that with the IOC president's support, Belarusian athletes would be able to return to full participation in international events in the near future.
The head of the NOC thanked the IOC for its support through Olympic Solidarity and noted the organization’s consistent work in this area. For her part, Kirsty Coventry stated the IOC's intention to support Belarusian athletes. The parties also agreed to continue regular dialogue and to collaboratively find solutions to all pressing issues.
