MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes have won 122 medals at the 3rd CIS Games held in Azerbaijan from 26 September to 8 October, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian athletes made the podium in every discipline they competed in. The team’s total haul consists of 32 gold, 38 silver, and 52 bronze medals. The most medals (35) were won in swimming (4-15-16). Usevalad Sarakavik secured two victories at the 3rd CIS Games. Canoe and kayak athletes led the gold medal count with 9, adding one silver and one bronze each to their tally. Emil Abalmasau and Artsiom Vaitseshyn were both triple gold medalists. Trampolinists secured a haul of six gold and one silver, highlighted by Yana Lebedeva’s triple crown.
The Belarusian team secured eight-medal hauls in wrestling (4-3-1) and judo (2-2-4), followed by seven medals in taekwondo (3-2-2) and table tennis (0-1-6). They claimed five podium spots in karate (1-0-4), badminton (0-1-4), boxing (0-1-4), and rhythmic gymnastics (0-5-0). The rowing (2-1-1) and shooting (0-1-3) teams each added four medals to the tally, while two medals came from archery (1-0-1), volleyball (0-2-0), 3x3 basketball (0-1-1), sambo (0-1-1), and fencing (0-0-2). The youth football team rounded out the count with a bronze.
In the overall medal standings, Belarus placed third among 13 participating countries. The delegation from Russia topped the standings with 231 medals (130-61-40), followed by the host nation Azerbaijan with 184 medals (33-56-95). The podium also saw athletes from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, and Türkiye, while competitors from Cuba, Kuwait, and Oman failed to make the podium. Overall, the 3rd CIS Games featured over 1,600 athletes under the age of 23.
