"On Point"
MINSK, 5 August (BelTA) – The U.S. embassy in Ukraine is providing President Trump with distorted and one-sided information, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov (2010-2014) said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
Commenting on changes in Donald Trump's policies, the former Ukrainian prime minister noted that the U.S. leader has managed to alienate former allies. "Trump has distanced himself from quite popular, well-known figures who helped him come to power, like Elon Musk or Tucker Carlson. Not only has he distanced himself from them but managed to quarrel with them. I could name other figures who remain in his team but have no influence," Nikolai Azarov said.
At the same time, he emphasized, Donald Trump has grown closer to people who were his opponents and supported the policies of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. “These are the very people who triggered the conflict in Ukraine by orchestrating the coup,” the former prime minister added.
Nikolai Azarov also drew attention to another important detail that might seem minor but actually plays a key role in Ukraine-related decision-making: “Trump hasn't replaced anyone at the U.S. Embassy [in Ukraine]. He appointed some completely unremarkable person as chargé d'affaires ad interim, while the heads of the embassy's structural departments remain the same.”
According to the former prime minister, the U.S. leadership obtains information about Ukraine precisely from its embassy in the country. And this information reaches the White House through the same channels that served the previous U.S. President Joe Biden. "These are pro-Biden personnel presenting information in a one-sided manner. If windows were broken in a children's hospital somewhere, they'll report that Russia deliberately destroyed it. And Trump, being an emotional person, will read this and express outrage during another briefing," Nikolai Azarov concluded.
