
MINSK, 21 July (BelTA) - Belarus-Iran parliamentary diplomacy has gained momentum, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs Sergei Rachkov told the media, BelTA learned
Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Vadim Ipatov met with the Iranian parliamentary delegation led by head of the Belarus-Iran parliamentary cooperation group at the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran Ali Asghar Bagherzadeh in Minsk on 21 July. The working group on cooperation with the Iranian Parliament at the National Assembly of Belarus and the Belarus-Iran parliamentary cooperation group at the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran held a joint meeting
“We discussed the development of political contacts and, against this background, the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation. In recent years, we have significantly intensified relations between the parliaments of Belarus and Iran. We have confirmed our interest to host the chairman of the Iranian Parliament on an official visit. We paid special attention to the development of trade and economic cooperation. We agreed that the MPs of Belarus and Russia will keep tabs on the progress of the economic agreements reached at the highest and high levels. We will make use of our parliamentary opportunities to facilitate the roadmap between the two countries, which is designed to run until 2026,” Sergei Rachkov noted.
Special attention was paid to the issues of ratification of international treaties concluded between Belarus and Iran. “More work is to be done here. First of all, it is necessary to accelerate the process of domestic approval of the necessary documents. We have determined a time frame for the completion of the ratification of a number of treaties concluded between our countries,” the MP said.

“We are working very actively at international parliamentary forums, in particular at BRICS. At the recent BRICS Parliamentary Forum in Brazil our delegation met with the Iranian parliamentary delegation. This shows that the two countries are keen on developing inter-parliamentary ties and promoting cooperation in politics, economy and humanitarian matters. We have specific plans for bilateral activities. These are not only visits, but events means to advance bilateral relations across the board,” Sergei Rachkov noted.
An Iranian parliamentary delegation led by head of the Belarus-Iran parliamentary cooperation group at the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran Ali Asghar Bagherzadeh arrived in Belarus on 20 July at the invitation of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. In addition to meetings in the House of Representatives, the Iranian parliamentary delegation is set to tour a number of mechanical engineering enterprises, Belarusian State Medical University, the National Library and the Khatyn memorial complex.
The National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the eighth convocation set up a working group on cooperation with the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran in May 2024. The mission of the group which is led by Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs Sergei Rachkov is to promote the Belarusian-Iranian relations via parliamentary diplomacy.
