MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) – The 3rd International Conference of the EAEU Court is taking place in Minsk on 20-21 November, focusing on the theme Ensuring the Rule of Law in the EAEU, BelTA has learned.

“The conference is of great significance. This event brings together representatives of judicial systems, executive and legislative authorities, as well as experts, legal professionals, and the business community. Why is this necessary? The Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union is a highly complex and multifaceted document, which establishes the legal system of the association, its governing bodies, and the movement towards creating a common market. Our task is to fully facilitate, through law and the Court’s activities, this movement and the consistent implementation of the policy to strengthen Eurasian integration. The conference serves as a platform where we receive feedback from our colleagues,” Chairman of the EAEU Court Alexey Dronov said.

He pointed out that the conference will discuss issues of upholding the rule of law in the EAEU, customs regulation, and competition in cross-border markets. “We will reflect on the current state of the EAEU legal system by analyzing how the Court’s acts are applied and what decisions are being made. Last year, we had 23 cases in total. Over the 10 years of the EAEU Court’s existence, more than 100 cases have been heard,” the EAEU Court chairman emphasized.

Why is it important to ensure the rule of law? “This principle implies that everything is done in accordance with the law, not at the whim of any individuals. Everything is subordinated to the interests of society, ensuring a balance of interests of various entities. Without the uniform application of norms in the member states and EAEU bodies, it is impossible to ensure any kind of governability,” the speaker stressed.

Alexey Dronov added that the EAEU is a fundamental project from the perspective of leveraging the opportunities of a unique space. “There are very active discussions on issues related to the creation of transcontinental routes and the establishment of an appropriate legal regime. This is one of the most important instruments for creating a multipolar world,” he concluded.

The conference involves over 200 speakers and attendees from Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Cuba, and Mongolia. On the first day, participants will discuss the role of the EAEU Court in ensuring the supremacy and uniform application of law within the EAEU, as well as issues of its improvement.

The second day will feature sessions on topical issues of applying the EAEU Treaty and related acts in customs regulation and the development of the EAEU internal market, compliance with general competition rules on the EAEU cross-border markets, as well as a roundtable on challenging issues of legal representation in the EAEU Court. The second day also includes a working meeting, titled as Dialogue of EAEU Member States and the EAEU Court, which is expected to discuss prospects, possible areas, and methods for developing the Court’s cooperation with authorized bodies of the EAEU member states.
