Military expert shares his thoughts on Trump's 50-day ultimatum

MINSK, 27 July (BelTA) - Andrei Bogodel, Head of the Education and Methodology Department of the Faculty of the General Staff of the Armed Forces at the Military Academy of Belarus, shared his perspective on U.S. President Donald Trump’s 50-day ultimatum as he spoke in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.

“You know why everyone accepted this 50-day ultimatum? Because it suited all parties,” Andrei Bogodel stated. “It’s like the talk of a 12-day war where everyone ultimately claimed victory. The same is here. Trump’s proposals left everyone satisfied. Europe was pleased to pull the USA back into its orbit, particularly through initiatives like the Ramstein format and arms sales. Suddenly, Trump is back in the game in Eastern Europe. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief - the USA isn’t going anywhere and remains in NATO. Frankly, the fact that NATO is entirely under Trump’s thumb probably satisfies him.”
As for Ukraine, Andrei Bogodel noted that U.S. weapons deliveries continue, albeit through different intermediaries. “We are talking about air defense systems, long-range missiles. Now the discussion has shifted to JASSM missiles, not Tomahawks. Germany’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and Chancellor Friedrich Merz have already hinted at imminent long-range missile supplies to help Ukraine keep fighting,” he added.

Regarding inconsistent political statements on arms deliveries, Andrei Bogodel emphasized there’s “no smoke without fire” - the issue is clearly on the table and will be resolved decisively.

“Look, everyone seems to have forgotten about Zelensky’s Victory Plan, yet its implementation continues. Long-range systems are being deployed, though NATO membership remains uncertain - but only if you ignore NATO’s actual rhetoric. The alliance’s June summit was misinterpreted as downplaying Ukraine’s prospects, but its four key points (down from 38 last year, plus six Ukraine-specific ones) include a clear commitment to ongoing support. Declarations like these reflect NATO’s official stance, and their execution is underway. Zelensky’s plan - which we know wasn’t his own - is being fulfilled. Meanwhile, Russia is also content; it won’t face pressure for 50 days while holding the initiative in Ukraine. So everyone is playing along with this 50-day narrative. The real question is: for whom, and on what exact day, will it end?” the military expert concluded.
