BREST, 11 March (BelTA) – Senya the raccoon, which came to Belarus from the United States of America, has shocked specialists, BelTA has learned.
“The foreigner” still has to settle down in an animal park in the city of Baranovichi and keeps producing surprises. “During a scheduled veterinary check the veterinary specialist found out that the raccoon is a girl,” specialists of the animal park dropped the bombshell. “We are a bit baffled. What should we call our little girl now?”
Belarusians have been invited to choose a new name out of three options for the famous raccoon: Yeseniya, Sonya, or Sasha.
The exotic but handsome animal came to Belarus from the USA in a shipping container. Belarusians watch the shenanigans accompanying his fate with interest. The raccoon was initially quarantined at the Oshmyany District Veterinary Station. Then it was moved to the animal park in Baranovichi, Brest Oblast. The raccoon lives in a spacious enclosure and eats various delicacies. Apart from that, the recent illegal immigrant has been legalized in Belarus at its new place of residence and has been issued documents.
Specialists explain that wild animals need time to adapt to new conditions. It is gradually being accustomed to people and to feeling safe around them. Efforts are being made to cater to the raccoon’s gastronomic preferences. The Baranovichi animal park hopes that the raccoon will soon get used to humans and that it will be possible to place it in an enclosure with other raccoons.
The Baranovichi animal park is one of the three most visited tourist attractions in Brest Oblast.
