Forest Week dedicated to Year of People's Unity in Belarus

MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – The nationwide campaign Forest Week will take place in early April, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Ecology, Nature Management, and Chernobyl Catastrophe Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Nikolai Vasilkov.

According to the source, trees will be planted as part of the Forest Week campaign. This campaign is dedicated to the Year of People's Unity. Members of the parliament, employees of the secretariat of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament, and volunteers will participate in the campaign as part of the established tradition.

According to Nikolai Vasilkov, 25 million trees were planted on an area of 5,600ha in 2020 thanks to such campaigns. “The forest cover percentage in Belarus exceeds 40% and the forest area totals 9.6 million hectares. At the same time these campaigns are important from the point of view of economy, social and ecological points of view,” the MP stressed.

Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Vladimir Andreichenko chaired a session of the Council of the House of Representatives on 31 March. Participants of the session discussed the legislative agenda of the fifth session of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament and progress in preparing bills for debates. The organization of parliamentary hearings about “Territorial integrity and people's unity of Belarus. Historical and legal aspects of reunification of Western Belarus into the BSSR” was discussed as well as the participation of MPs in the voluntary campaign Forest Week.
