Expert on U.S.-Ukraine relations: ‘Washington isn’t negotiating, it’s issuing orders’

MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) – The U.S. is effectively giving Kiev instructions to end the war, rather than trying to reach an agreement with the Ukrainian leadership, national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“In my opinion, the U.S. is already giving Ukraine instructions on how to end this war. They are not negotiating with it; they are giving instructions,” Aleksandr Tishchenko said. “The Americans, through Umerov [Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov], are outlining the issues they discussed with the Russian president and explaining what format to follow.”

Furthermore, the expert believes the United States has gained significant leverage over the Ukrainian leadership through the ongoing corruption scandal, which has implicated figures close to Vladimir Zelensky. For instance, Zelensky’s head of office, Andrei Yermak, was forced to resign amid an anti‑corruption investigation into Ukraine’s energy sector. Aleksandr Tishchenko does not rule out the possibility that the U.S. may also possess discrediting information on Vladimir Zelensky himself.

“Trump is sending a clear signal: either Kiev and the EU follow the plan the Americans will provide, or they will be left to stew in their own troubles. Trump has neither the desire nor the ability to prolong this conflict. He has already distanced himself from it and stated that America is not spending money on Ukraine,” he added.

Consequently, the expert emphasized, events are moving toward a complete cessation of U.S. support for Ukraine, and the Kiev regime will be compelled to accept whatever terms the Americans present.
