MINSK, 9 July (BelTA) – The targeting of nuclear facilities regardless of the consequences has become a new dangerous precedent in international politics, member of the Another Ukraine movement, former deputy of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada Spiridon Kilinkarov said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Commenting on the concerns about the whereabouts of over 400 kg of enriched uranium and Iran’s termination of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, Spiridon Kilinkarov noted that blocking access for international inspectors is only part of the overall trend. “Israel has not cooperated with the IAEA at all, and Iran has blocked the International Atomic Energy Agency from accessing its nuclear facilities,” he recalled.

However, according to the expert, what is even more alarming is the shift of red lines in international relations. “The precedent created by the Americans is very consequential. I mean the very possibility - regardless of the results - of striking nuclear facilities. This represents a significant shift of the existing red lines,” the expert emphasized.

He went on saying that the use of bunker busters is not the only thing that can cause long-term repercussions. “Well, it is possible to bomb nuclear facilities with completely different weapons. The thing is that the targeting of nuclear facilities is sold as a new normal to us. This is already reality, this is no longer beyond the pale,” Spiridon Kilinkarov said.

The speaker recalled the events in Kosovo in 1999 when NATO conducted an air campaign against Yugoslavia without the authorization of the UN Security Council. At that time, this decision seemed exceptional, but today such actions no longer cause the same kind of international condemnation. Spiridon Kilinkarov expressed concern that this policy of the US will create a ripple effect and can inspire other nations to do the same.
