Expert comments on Western neighbors' attempt to fence off from Belarus

MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) - The policy being conducted by the West on the border with Belarus is not limited by any moral principles or obligations, Nikolai Buzin, Member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Nikolai Buzin commented on the situation at the checkpoints, where people wait for days for an opportunity to enter the EU countries neighboring Belarus. The West has not once condemned the actions of the Polish, Lithuanian, or Latvian authorities, whose fault it is that the situation at the border remains tense.

“Ursula von der Leyen, during her trip along the eastern borders of the European Union, poses in front of the fence on our border, which cost taxpayers [of the countries neighboring Belarus] $500 million. Tell me, is Europe so rich, do people live so wonderfully there? This is simply a political order, political execution. And, most importantly, no one is stopped by any moral principles or obligations. They are simply crossed out today,” Nikolai Buzin said.

In his opinion, the West operates on the logic that everything is permissible for it, while others supposedly must either play along with the West or live by its rules. “This will no longer be the case,” Nikolai Buzin is convinced.

Returning to the topic of the fence that western neighbors have erected on the border with Belarus, the MP said that any barrier can be overcome. “The fence is not a necessity. The fence is a political demarche. It is simply the West's attempt to fence itself off from Belarus, Russia, and the East as a whole,” he stressed.
