From flour to meat: Belarus aims to expand food exports to China

MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) - Belarus plans to increase its food exports to China, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry following a meeting between Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the People’s Republic of China Aleksandr Chervyakov.

The parties emphasized the high momentum in trade and economic relations and expressed mutual interest in further intensifying their partnership. Attention was paid to the strategic task of diversifying the export range of Belarusian goods.

China remains the second-largest market for Belarusian food after the Russian Federation, accounting for 4.5% of export share. In this, food products constitute about 27% of all Belarusian exports to China, confirming the significance of the agricultural sector in bilateral trade. Belarusian producers confidently maintain positions in the top-10 key Chinese import items for 2025. These achievements attest to the high quality of Belarusian products and their demand.

Yuri Gorlov emphasized that this year the Agriculture and Food Ministry plans not only to increase supply volumes for already established product lines but also to actively expand the export range through promising commodity groups. Organizations are conducting targeted work on accreditation for supplies to China of flour, cereals, bran, and flakes, which will allow access to new segments of consumer demand. Given the constantly growing meat consumption in China, significant prospects are opening up for increasing exports of beef and poultry meat. The minister placed separate emphasis on the dairy industry: the Chinese dairy market is the world’s second-largest by volume, and its development will become a powerful driver for increasing foreign currency earnings and strengthening the export potential of the Belarusian agricultural sector.

A number of investment projects in Belarus are in an active implementation stage jointly with the Chinese side. These projects will be an important step towards the technological renewal of the industry and increasing its export orientation. “Systematic work on diversifying export destinations and expanding the range of supplies remains a priority for the Agriculture and Food Ministry, and the Chinese market is viewed as a strategically important platform for the sustainable growth of Belarusian food exports,” the press service said.
