MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) - European control services cleared only 36% of freight transport in 24 hours, Belarus’ State Border Committee told BelTA.
The busiest route for trucks to enter the European Union is via the Polish checkpoint Kukuryki (Kozlovichi on the Belarusian side), with 785 trucks queuing. Over the past 24 hours, the Polish checkpoint cleared 52% of the trucks.
Some 190 trucks are waiting to enter the EU at the Latvian border checkpoint Paternieki (Grigorovshchina on the Belarusian side), where 29% of vehicles was checked out to enter Latvia.
After the unilateral closure of checkpoints by the Lithuanian side, over a 1,000 trucks remain stranded in Belarus. The Belarusian side has decided to get these vehicles moved in waiting zones near other border checkpoints. In particular, in addition to the existing zone near the Kamenny Log checkpoint, such zones have been designated at the nearest checkpoints of Kotlovka, Benyakoni, and Berestovitsa.
The drivers have been given the opportunity to move their trucks to the designated waiting areas that offer necessary safe conditions for vehicles, with the possibility of subsequent departure upon being called through electronic queuing system. Drivers who permanently reside outside the Republic of Belarus may proceed to their place of residence through any operational border checkpoints.
