MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Effective development of the state and the legislation is possible only on a solid constitutional foundation. Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Chairman of the Constitutional Commission Piotr Miklashevich made the statement at a session of the Constitutional Commission on 31 March, BelTA has learned.
The official said: “Effective state and legal construction is possible only on a reliable constitutional foundation. On the one hand, the stability of the Constitution is an important condition for the stable development of the society and the state. On the other hand, the Constitution has to live up to changing societal relations.”
In his words, the Constitutional Commission has to work out proposals on amending Belarus' Constitution at the present stage of historical development taking into account real peculiarities of social, political, and legal development of the country as well as key overdue needs of the society.
In its work the Constitutional Commission should proceed from the factor of constitutional continuity. “The continuity of constitutional provisions can guarantee the stability and security of the state, the preservation of the achieved progress in the spheres of politics, economy, social and cultural spheres,” the official noted.
A schedule of sessions of the Constitutional Commission was approved on 31 March. A total of nine sessions will be held as frequently as two times a month.
