Belarus-China cooperation in film production seen as strategic priority

MINSK, 1 November (BelTA) – The 31st Minsk International Film Festival Listapad hosted a Day of Chinese Cinema, BelTA has learned.

The event took place at the Pobeda cinema. Audiences were treated to a screening of the popular Chinese film Decoded directed by Chen Sicheng.

“It is very important for us that the national cinema program within the festival begins with China,” said Belarus’ First Deputy Culture Minister Dmitry Shlyakhtin. “This highlights the fruitful ties that have developed between our countries, including in the cultural sphere. We know that China has a lot to offer, and we also have a lot to share. The Day of Chinese Cinema traditionally enjoys great popularity among Minsk audiences and visitors to the capital, as evidenced by strong ticket sales both for Listapad screenings and for national cinema days.”
Dmitry Shlyakhtin stressed that Listapad is not merely a film festival, but a multifaceted platform that enables filmmakers and industry professionals to establish business contacts and move toward concrete projects. “This year’s festival will become an important starting point to create a joint Belarus-China film. We are also interested in bringing Belarusian films to the Chinese market. In addition, we aim to improve the skills of our specialists in China, as the level of technical expertise among our colleagues is very high and the film industry in China is one of the fastest-growing sectors in terms of technology. Overall, leveraging the creative potential of Belarus and China in film production is one of the strategic goals of the Ministry of Culture,” he noted.

The first deputy minister also emphasized that Belarusian audiences have a genuine appreciation for Chinese cinema. “China and Belarus share similar views on true cultural and spiritual values, which brings our peoples together despite differences in language, race, and other factors. People can see and feel this, and we understand that our countries are moving towards the same goals,” he said.
The opening ceremony of the Day of Chinese Cinema was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan and Chairman of the Huaqiao Association Wang Xiaomeng.
