MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – Belarus will build and renovate around 100 tourist facilities over the next five-year period, Belarus’ Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin said during the second session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress on 19 December, BelTA has learned.
“The task is to bring this sector to a brand new level, turning it into a national project and one of the leaders of the economy. The development potential is significant. Tourism, as a locomotive, will drive the growth of other services: the hotel business, creative industries, transport, catering, retail, and more,” the prime minister said.
According to him, the digitalization of tourism, modern infrastructure meeting global standards, and a variety of flagship routes as the calling card of the regions will expand opportunities for citizens to vacation at home, keeping income inside the country, while also increasing the inflow of foreign visitors and foreign currency revenues.
“It is important to put hotels and health resorts in order. This is the basic minimum for developing the industry. We have already selected 46 facilities. The investment need exceeds Br1 billion. Over five years, about 100 tourist facilities will be built and renovated. Implementing these tasks will increase tourism’s contribution to GDP to 4.5% and double the export of tourism services,” Aleksandr Turchin said.
The mechanisms for implementation will be the state programs Tourism and Cultural Space.
