MINSK, 12 December (BelTA) - Sergei Karnaukhov, PhD in Law, expert on security services, explained why the USA has changed its policy toward the European Union in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Sergei Karnaukhov recalled that the new U.S. National Security Strategy was published without much fanfare. Journalists discovered this document by chance, and the United States' approach surprised many.
“When they started reading it, they were stunned. European leaders were stunned in the first place because it was stated clearly that Europe, as it is, is no longer needed by America; America is not satisfied with it. America will no longer feed Europe. If Europe wants to keep tackling global issues, fine - it can do so at its own expense. No problem. Do what you like, but you must coordinate with us, and you will buy your weapons from us,” the expert said.
Thus, Donald Trump has continued his line regarding relations with Europe. “We did not see anything in this strategy that Trump hasn’t already said. This is Trump’s strategy: America First. This means the world as we imagined it has probably come to an end. I don’t insist, because no one knows how the situation will develop further,” the expert emphasized.
“The Americans have gathered a mass of threads. To imagine it, it’s like a giant old man holding many colored threads, pulling on each one, and they keep slipping from his grasp. He tries to catch them, still imagining that he holds all these threads. But he does not hold them,” Sergei Karnaukhov expressed figuratively. “The world we are debating is just a fantasy in the minds of the U.S. political elite. By comparison, Trump is more grounded in reality.”
According to the expert, Ukraine has become a kind of battleground between Donald Trump and his political opponents - American Democrats and their proxies in Europe, who advocate for the continuation of the conflict.
“He came to Putin in Anchorage and says: ‘Help’. This is my interpretation, a personal one. He says: ‘Help, because if I can topple the Democrats here, we will establish peace everywhere. Not just in a local area, in Ukraine, but everywhere. We will create a completely different world’. And I think that the President [Vladimir Putin of Russia] understands that everything must be done to prevent the crazy democratic Europe, together with its globalists, from pushing our planet into the inferno of war. Everything must be done to find a compromise formula to end the conflict. But nothing is working, we see that. Because a colossal number of streams [of resources] are flowing into Ukraine, and no one wants to stop this war except for us and Trump,” the expert concluded.
