Terms of restoration of Belarusian-Lithuanian relations specified

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – A number of conditions have to be met for Belarus and Lithuania to restore normal bilateral relations. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko made the relevant statement on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.

Roman Golovchenko said: “I think it will not take much time to restore the relations to a normal level provided there is a genuine desire. At least I can say on behalf of the Belarusian government that we are ready to normalize the relations very fast. But before that the Lithuanian side should abandon the rhetoric it uses with regard to our country and the subversive actions directed against Belarus' security and sovereignty.”

The prime minister believes that foreign politicians are incapable of delivering irreparable damage to Belarus-Lithuania relations. “Moreover, I am confident that this normalization will definitely happen but due to these delays we will need more time to do everything. Another six months will pass and I am not sure we will be able to reroute transit traffic back to Lithuania. I think it is an extremely short-sighted and ill-considered policy that damages the Lithuanian economy,” he noted.
