MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – The sanctions have inflicted greater losses and harm upon the European Union itself, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó said at the 3rd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security on 28 October, BelTA has learned.
If sanctions are viewed not as an ideological aspect and political action, but through an economic lens, one can conclude that “they have inflicted greater losses and harm upon the European Union itself,” Péter Szijjártó noted.
According to him, the policy of isolation has caused irreparable damage to the European Union, with the economies of all its members deteriorating. Persistent problems are observed at the heart of the European continent. Western Europe is overwhelmed by illegal migrants.
Péter Szijjártó emphasized that the European Union has isolated itself from the main players in the global economy. “The situation is now completely different. Common sense has been replaced by an approach of excessive politicization and ideologization. Unfortunately, the European Union has isolated itself from the main players in the global economy,” he said.

In this regard, the Hungarian minister recalled that back in the day there was a race of sorts among European leaders as to “who could speak worse of Trump”. “This was completely open. They may hope it's forgotten. However, that is not the case. It is not only remembered by European leaders but also by the one targeted by these statements,” he noted.
The EU has also ignored China, viewing it as a competitor. The European Union even imposed tariffs on Chinese cars, arguing that it aims to preserve and protect the European automotive industry.
“But we don't want to fight and compete. Let's cooperate, let's derive mutual benefit from this cooperation,” Péter Szijjártó said noting that the EU has also isolated itself from Russia and Africa, the continent of the future.
