Russian FM condemns UN for rubberstamping biased country resolutions

MOSCOW, 10 November (BelTA) – Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov has condemned the United Nations Organization for rubberstamping politically biased country resolutions. The official did it at an annual meeting of the Russian-Belarusian ministerial collegium in Moscow on 10 November, BelTA has learned.

Sergey Lavrov said: “Today we will also compare notes on cooperation on international platforms in matters concerning human rights with a focus on the inadmissibility of interference in domestic affairs of sovereign countries and the inadmissibility of politicization of these problems. We highly appreciate coordination with Belarusian colleagues in this area, including in the United Nations Organization and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. We stand together in favor of depoliticizing the UN's human rights dimension, including the eradication of the flawed practice of accusing individual countries on the basis of groundless and far-fetched reasons. We condemn the rubberstamping of politicized country resolutions that have nothing in common with care for the universal application of universal norms in the area of human rights.”

The official also noted that such actions undermine trust in the United Nations Organization and seriously damage the reputation of its human rights dimension. “We are also convinced that the abuse of human rights procedures by the OSCE and the Council of Europe reduces the effectiveness of these European bodies and interferes with the development of their uniting potential,” he added.
