MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – Peaceful dialogue between Venezuela and the United States remains the only viable path forward, Chairman of the International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Rachkov told BelTA.
“Through its actions in Venezuela, in violation of the UN Charter and international law, the United States has begun the practical implementation of its new national security strategy. The formal pretext presented to the global and American public for carrying out this special operation, drug trafficking as a threat to U.S. security, appears politically contrived and is not supported by objective data, including thematic documents of relevant international organizations,” Sergei Rachkov said.

The parliamentarian stressed that the claim of “the need to uphold the Monroe Doctrine” cannot serve as a legal basis for such an aggressive step against a sovereign state. As is well known, the doctrine has a unilateral status and declares foreign policy principles exclusively for the United States, formulated in the late 19th century. Since then, the world has changed dramatically, with international relations developing dynamically, driven above all by economic integration processes.

“The intention of the U.S. leadership to govern Venezuela from the White House can hardly be considered feasible in practice. This is evident even from the vague remarks in this regard made by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with NBC,” Sergei Rachkov noted. “In Venezuela, all structures of state power remain intact, capable of independently organizing the life of the people and the state.”

He emphasized that threats, intimidation, sanctions, and aggression against sovereign states do not work in today’s multipolar world.

“The United States must return the situation to the framework of international law and resolve political and economic issues, which may, to some extent, be justified as serving its national interests, through negotiations and peaceful means,” Sergei Rachkov stressed.

“In my view, our country, guided by a peace-loving foreign policy, will always be ready to use its capabilities in Venezuela to support a constructive Venezuelan-U.S. dialogue, for which there is no alternative,” the parliamentarian concluded.
