President: Cuba strongly condemns attempts to destabilize situation in Belarus

MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) – Cuba strongly condemns attempts to destabilize the situation in Belarus and to assassinate its President Aleksandr Lukashenko, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said at the online meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on 21 May, BelTA has learned.

"I condemn the continuing campaigns of the West to discredit the Republic of Belarus, the attempts to destabilize this brotherly country and to assassinate its President Aleksandr Lukashenko," the Cuban leader said.

He also stressed: "Having been the victim of the criminal financial and economic blockade for more than six decades, Cuba expresses gratitude to the EAEU countries for their continued condemnation of the U.S. policy of genocide, that has intensified unprecedentedly despite the pandemic."

The Cuban president said that despite everything, the country has "managed to withstand the pandemic and to achieve encouraging results though being subjected to inhumane persecution". First of all, he stressed, the results were achieved thanks to the "firm determination of the people to defend the political system chosen by the majority, the essence of which is welfare policy."
