Policy of some Western state towards Belarus branded as ‘mindless'

MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – The mindless policy of a number of Western leaders has become the norm, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at a joint press conference following the annual meeting of the Russian-Belarusian ministerial collegium in Moscow on 10 November, BelTA has learned.

“Irresponsibility, the mindless policy of a number of Western states has become the norm today. They cannot even think one or two steps ahead, reacting on the spot to certain things,” Vladimir Makei said when asked about the situation on the Belarusian-Polish border. “Today, they have deployed 15,000 troops against crying women and children to prevent them from getting into Europe... I cannot comprehend it. This is a violation of all possible norms.”

Journalists asked Vladimir Makei to comment on some of the latest statements made by the Polish side. For example, Warsaw described the security forces deployed on the border as the first line of defense and compared the ongoing developments with 1939 when the Second World War began.

Vladimir Makei responded by citing American philosopher and essayist of Lebanese origin Nassim Taleb, who in one of his works describes approximately the following situation: “A Western politician, an interventionist, sits in an armchair on his mowed lawn, sipping beer; his gay friend is lying next to him, looking at him with loving eyes. And this politician is giving instructions on the phone as to what country to punish and what country to pardon.”

“Russian political analyst Fyodor Lukyanov described this situation as a triumph of the talking heads phenomenon. I would add that this is the triumph of the brainless talking heads phenomenon,” the minister explained.

Vladimir Makei once again dismissed the accusations that Belarus is allegedly organizing migrant flows. “Migrants go through the Mediterranean region, the Balkans. As we know, they get necessary protection there. Belarus, for some reason, has turned into a thorn in one's side. These are absolutely far-fetched, reckless assumptions of irresponsible politicians. The only thing they know is sanctions,” the minister said.

“This will not work with Belarus. I know that the leaders of our countries have discussed these issues. We will find an adequate response to the threat artificially created by the North Atlantic Alliance on our common borders,” Vladimir Makei added.
