MP: Belarus, Iran complement each other in economy

MINSK, 13 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Iran complement each other in economy, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives, head of Belarus' parliamentary working group on cooperation with the Iranian Parliament Andrei Savinykh told the media in Minsk on 13 July, BelTA has learned.

“With our Iranian colleagues we are set to discuss the interaction in international organizations, cooperation in the field of human rights, in the efforts to lift the sanctions against Iran and return of all parties to the nuclear deal, and also bilateral cooperation. We have great opportunities to contribute to the development of the two countries. These are primarily education and scientific exchanges, and, of course, bilateral trade. We expect that the Iranian delegation will have time to visit interesting industrial and construction facilities of the country in order to better understand the potential of Belarus and the areas in which we propose to develop cooperation."

According to him, Iran is a serious player that has been weakened by illegal U.S. sanctions. "As soon as this situation changes (we are working together in this direction), Iran can become a very important partner, since our countries naturally complement each other. We have well-developed agricultural engineering and many other industries that naturally complement the sectoral structure of Iran's economy," the MP said. “I think if such a negative thing as the external sanctions is removed, the mutual trade will increase manifold.”
