MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – Belarus and China are steadily advancing their bilateral parliamentary and interregional cooperation, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Aleinik told BelTA following his participation in the 2025 Legislators Forum for Friendly Exchanges in China and his meeting with the leadership of the Chinese National People’s Congress.
Sergei Aleinik highlighted the key topics addressed at the forum, which brought together representatives of legislative bodies from about 50 countries. The central theme was fostering global cooperation in the interests of sustainable development.
“The parliamentary forum focused on interparliamentary and interregional cooperation,” Sergei Aleinik said. “The international forum gained particular significance as it was held almost immediately after the historic SCO summit in Tianjin that sought to strengthen the solid foundation of Eurasian security and sustainable economic development. Representatives of legislative bodies also discussed ways to advance the decisions and initiatives adopted there.”
The chairman of the Standing Commission noted: “At the SCO Summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping put forward a fourth major initiative on global governance. Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko fully supported this initiative during their highest-level meeting.”
Sergei Aleinik pointed out that the agenda is supported by the constructive forces in the global community, which was evident in the work of the 2025 Legislators Forum for Friendly Exchanges.
He also noted: “All participants spoke in favor of joint efforts to build a just world, global governance, and sustainable development. The growing role of parliamentary diplomacy and interparliamentary cooperation in advancing these goals was emphasized.”
He paid particular attention to the development of bilateral relations between Belarus and China: “Thanks to the leadership of Aleksandr Lukashenko and Xi Jinping, Belarus-China relations have reached the level of comprehensive strategic partnership, which continues to evolve. Our states share much in common. We advocate for the establishment of a just world order, for collective action in resolving the global problems of our time. We stand against the use of force in international relations. Belarus and China consistently and confidently defend each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and oppose interference in internal affairs.”
