Malkina: Time not ripe yet for EAEU united response to Western sanctions

MOSCOW, 30 April (BelTA) – Time is not ripe yet for the united response of the Eurasian Economic Union to the sanctions imposed by the West against individual members of the union, Iya Malkina, Aide to the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), told a press briefing following the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Kazan, Russia on 29-30 April, BelTA has learned.

When asked which measures the EEC is considering in response to the unfriendly actions against one of the EAEU countries, Iya Malkina noted: “The commission is not yet considering any options for joint response. Earlier, the EEC Council was briefed on the measures that could be hypothetically taken by countries in response to sanctions imposed against one or another member state. But this issue is still, let's say, at the stage of information exchange. It is still premature to say that the states are ready to respond and which format this response can take. For the time being no agreements have been reached yet on this issue between the member states. In fact they have not been discussed in great detail. Rather, the heads of government took a time-out to process the information they received cand to consider the options that might be acceptable to each member state.”

The list of the outcome documents signed at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting features the document "Instruction regarding the consultations on measures of economic pressure imposed by third parties against the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union”, BelTA learned from the EEC press service.
