Makei: Triumph of brainless talking heads in international relations

MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) – Brainless talking heads have come to call the shots in international relations, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the ONT TV channel, BelTA informs.

The TV presenter mentioned the recent statements by the leaders of the American foundation NED [National Endowment for Democracy] and the head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Lithuanian Seimas, who took the bait of pranksters and revealed their role in nurturing the protest movement in Belarus. The Lithuanian MP even said that his country has plans for China as well.

“The well-known Russian political scientist Fyodor Lukyanov once said that such a phenomenon as a triumph of a loose tongue has gained ground in international relations. I would put it even more harshly: it can be called a triumph of talking heads without brains,” Vladimir Makei said.

He noted that ‘Western talking heads' are ready to use any means and methods in order to achieve the goals they made up. “Not only bribery, not only financing, not only information war, blackmail and intimidation, but also terrorist attacks (which happened in Belarus, eight incidents in six months of last year), and coup attempts, and the war,” the minister said.

According to Vladimir Makei, the conversation of the pranksters with the top executives of the American foundation is very indicative. Its leaders said that they had been actively working in Belarus for a long time, including with unofficial trade unions, non-governmental organizations, and independent media. Moreover, they are operating not only in the capital city, but also in other cities: Vitebsk, Grodno, Mogilev. “An employee of the foundation said that they had been supporting Belarusian NGOs for over 20 years, and organization's friendly and close relations with these NGOs were pivotal to the events, or the build-up to the events, of last summer. She obviously meant the attempted coup, which explains a lot,” the minister said.
