Belarus, Russia lauded for building positive agenda amid global confrontation

MOSCOW, 15 February (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia show an example of building a positive agenda in the context of global confrontation, Viktor Sorokin, Russian Foreign Ministry's special representative for issues of the Russia-Belarus Union State, said at the conference "Security and Economic Sovereignty of the Union State: Common Priorities" in Moscow on 15 February, BelTA had learned.

"Today, when you turn on the TV in the morning, open the news feed or read the newspapers you get into the world of, I would say, a nightmare, the world of mutual accusations . At this time the two states, Russia and Belarus, two wise peoples, Russians and Belarusians, show an example to the whole world that it is time to take a step back from the abyss, to which some countries are pushing us, and turn to a positive agenda," the diplomat said. “The agreements that our countries have reached in recent months are an example of the positive agenda. We convincingly show that what is needed is not confrontation, but integration, mutually beneficial cooperation, mutual respect, rejection of mutual reproaches and even hatred. And only in this way will we be able to restore a stable international situation."

The Russian diplomat noted that it is not only about an economic union between Belarus and Russia, but also, in fact, about the largest Eurasian integration project and a single humanitarian space from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. "Today Belarus and Russia show that they are ready for this. We are not only ready, but by our example we show how to act in the current conditions," the diplomat said.

Viktor Sorokin stressed that Belarus and Russia do not threaten anyone, but that they will defend their interests and Union State borders resolutely and to the end. "Our countries show the whole world that we are peaceful people, but we will resolutely defend our national state interests and protect the borders of the Union State from Brest to Vladivostok. No one should have any doubts about that. We do not threaten anyone, but we will defend our interests resolutely and to the end," he said.

The conference "Security and Economic Sovereignty of the Union State: Common Priorities" held via a video link was hosted by Belaya Rus public organization and the Civic Chamber of Russia. It was also organized by the Gromyko Association for Foreign Policy Studies.
