Governor: Cooperation with Belarus is very important for Russia’s Yaroslavl Oblast

MINSK, 24 November (BelTA) - Cooperation with Belarus in the manufacturing sector and agriculture is extremely important for Russia's Yaroslavl Oblast, head of the region Mikhail Yevrayev said during a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 24 November, BelTA has learned.

The governor thanked the Belarusian head of state for his warm words about Yaroslavl Oblast as being close to Belarusians. "We truly feel that we are at home," he said.

According to Mikhail Yevrayev, the region is very serious about the current visit to Belarus. A large delegation, comprising representatives from more than 10 enterprises, has arrived in Minsk.

The mutual trade between Belarus and Yaroslavl Oblast has gained momentum in recent years. In 2021 it was approaching the $300 million mark (amounting to almost $280 million). In 2024 it exceeded $370 million. Belarus’ major exports are cheeses, cottage cheese, and butter; trucks; steel bars; and poultry meat and edible offal. Yaroslavl Oblast exports to Belarus include internal combustion engines, ferrous scrap metal, petroleum products, tires, paints and varnishes and also parts and accessories for cars and tractors.

“We are already at a good level. The level of cooperation [with Belarus] is already strong,” the governor emphasized. “We are moving forward together.”

“Cooperation in both the manufacturing sector and agriculture is extremely important for us,” he added. There is already close collaboration in the mechanical engineering industry, with Belarusian enterprises using engines from Yaroslavl Motor Plant. For instance, approximately 140 Belarusian passenger buses with YaMZ engines are already in operation in the Russian region, with a further 100 units expected to be supplied. Work is underway on an engine for three-axle tractors that could be used on MAZ machines. “This represents a very positive mutual technical cooperation,” Mikhail Yevrayev noted. According to him, Yaroslavl Oblast is currently interested in procuring equipment for small-scale mechanization and electric transport.

When answering questions from journalists after the meeting with the Belarusian president, the governor particularly emphasized the importance of ensuring technological sovereignty, which is now the focus of the mutual efforts of the two countries. “We are developing technologies, mutually enriching each other, moving forward, and all this leads to an increase in the level and quality of life of people,” he said.
“We have a lot of common interests,” the head of the region continued. “This visit is another serious step towards promoting mutual cooperation between our fraternal peoples.” This also includes humanitarian cooperation, especially in sport, tourism and education.
