Economy Ministry reveals key drivers of Belarus’ GDP growth in H1 2025

MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) - The Belarusian Economy Ministry has identified the key drivers of GDP growth in January-June 2025, BelTA learned from the ministry’s press service.

As Belarus’ National Statistical Committee (Belstat) previously reported, in January-June 2025, Belarus’ GDP grew by 2.1%. “Some slowdown is linked to reduced production rates in certain sectors amid the overall deceleration of global economic growth. Adverse weather conditions affected agricultural performance, leading to significant delays in grain harvesting and forage preparation,” the press service noted.

The major drivers of growth in January-June 2025 were construction (up by 10.8%) and information and communications (up by 4.8%)

In January-June 2025, retail trade surged by 9%, driven by a 10.5% rise in real household income (based on January-May 2025 data).

Exports of goods and services in January-May 2025 exceeded last year’s levels. Deliveries to distant countries continued to grow: by 1.6 times to Africa; by nearly 1.7 times to Latin America; by 25% to Southeast and Central Asia. Exports of services also showed strong momentum, rising by 15.7% over the same period.

“Stable economic performance is enabling growth in household incomes. In January-May 2025, the average monthly wage reached Br2,546.3, while the average labor pension exceeded Br916,” the press service added.
