Belarusian commodity exchange accredits first company from Myanmar

MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) - The Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) accredited the first company from Myanmar, which expanded the list of countries using the exchange mechanism for trade with Belarus to 82 countries, BelTA has learned from the BUCE press service.

The new participant in exchange trading plans to purchase Belarusian dairy products. "Currently, companies from five Southeast Asian countries are accredited on the exchange: from Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Singapore. Almost all these companies have been accredited on the exchange platform to purchase dairy products over the past four months. Singaporean participants demonstrate the greatest activity during trading. In 2024, the total value of their transactions increased 1.6 times, reaching $28 million. Imports of Belarusian lumber, pulp and skimmed milk powder accounted for the entire volume of sales. This year, the trade between Singapore and Belarus via commodity exchange is gaining momentum. For instance, in January-March, the exchange trade between the two countries amounted to $13.6 million, which was 5.2 times more year-on-year," the BUCE press service stated.

The press service also noted that in 2025 the role of Belarusian exports in the structure of exchange trade with Southeast Asian countries is likely to remain dominant. This is due to the high demand for key export commodity positions sold through BUCE. These include primarily softwood lumber and dry dairy products. It is expected that in the short- and medium-term periods, these product groups will become the key drivers of growth in exchange transaction volumes between enterprises of Belarus and residents of Southeast Asian states.

As of 31 March 2025, BUCE accredited 8,246 foreign business entities, including 10 companies from Singapore and one each from Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar.
