MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – Belarus saw a record-low unemployment rate and a high level of employment in 2025, the press service of the Belarusian Labor and Social Protection Ministry told BelTA.
According to the press service, the unemployment rate (measured by ILO methodology) stood at 2.5% in 2025, with youth unemployment at 5.9%. For the first time in five years, the number of people employed in the economy increased, reaching 4,159 million. Employers reported 163,800 job openings, 70% of which were in manual trades.
The ministry noted that Belarus ensures rapid entry into the labor market, especially for young people and students. Conditions are being created for starting a career while still studying, as well as for obtaining in-demand professions quickly and without unnecessary barriers. In addition, professional standards are being updated and excessive requirements reduced, so that training takes exactly as long as is truly necessary to master a profession.
Demand is shifting from manual laborers to skilled specialists capable of operating and maintaining complex equipment. These are primarily workers with secondary specialized or vocational technical education.
