VERKHNEDVINSK DISTRICT, 31 March (BelTA) - A new sour cream making shop, increased capacity for the production of packaged butter will make part of the modernization effort to be carried out at the Verkhnedvinsk Butter and Cheese Factory in 2025, Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin learned during his working trip to Vitebsk Oblast on 31 March, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian head of government visited one of the leading enterprises of the country’s northern region. Aleksandr Turchin noted that the purpose of his trip was to get familiar with the work of the agricultural association, set up at the Verkhnedvinsk Butter and Cheese Factory.

According to Svetlana Chivirova, Director of the Verkhnedvinsk Butter and Cheese Factory, the agricultural holding company includes eight organizations - a processing enterprise, a maintenance enterprise and six agricultural organizations. An investment project is being implemented here under the One District-One Project program this year. The company plans to upgrade the power system, treatment facilities and build a new sour cream making shop. Funds have been allocated by the Development Bank.

“In order to develop the enterprise, it was decided to modernize the power supply systems and treatment facilities. In parallel, we are increasing butter production volumes and launching a sour cream making shop. The project will cost Br40.5 million. The enterprise's own funds should make 25% of the sum. Thanks to this project, we will be able to organize the servicing infrastructure properly, and after that we will be able to open a sour cream making shop with an annual capacity of 360 tonnes and double the production of packaged butter. Now, due to technical capabilities, we pack only 50% of butter, and the rest is sold in wholesale packaging,” the head of the enterprise said.

In her words, last year industrial output increased by more than 35% compared to 2023. “We made 10,000 tonnes of cheese, 2,100 tonnes of butter. We are an export-oriented enterprise, and export 90% of the output. Cheese makes the main export item. It mainly exported to the regions of Russia. As for whey powder, the export geography is expanding every year. We sell this product to China. We have also launches the export of this product to Philippines, Indonesia, Oman, Yemen, and Nigeria,” the director of the enterprise said.

According to Svetlana Chivirova, another enterprise joined the agricultural holding company in December 2023. It is the Shumilino production shop of Polotsk Milk Factory, where some of the equipment has already been replaced. A large-scale technical re-equipment is expected in this shop to increase the production of cheese under the Yan Syrodel brand and to start producing blue mold cheese.
