MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – Belarus’ gross external debt amounted to $37.4 billion as of 1 April 2025, $2.2 billion up in Q1 2025, BelTA learned from statistics released by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB).

The increase in external debt obligations was largely due to their revaluation (to the tune of $1.86 billion) and due to foreign trade financing operations ($0.37 billion).

On the whole, the debt burden on the country’s economy remains relatively low. As of 1 April, the ratio of the external debt to the GDP stood at 48.5%.

Long-term obligations still represent a significant part of Belarus’ external debt (69.9%). It indicates low risks in the area of external debt financing.
