Narrow loss spoils Belarus' start at Slovakia Cup

MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian national team lost 2-1 to Slovakia in the first game of the international ice hockey tournament in Zilina on 11 February, BelTA informs.

Dave Lewis' men who went to the Slovakia Cup without a number of key players opened the score in the 4th minute of the game. Charles Linglet fed Nikita Ustinenko whose middle-range rocket caught Slovakia's goalie Julius Hudacek for 1-0. The hosts of the tournament leveled off before the first break. Early in the closing stanza the Slovak team set the final score with Peter Cehlarik scoring the winner on a power-play. The Belarusians had a couple of chances to tie the score but the Slovak goalie stood strong to keep his net impenetrable.

Belarus will play Switzerland on 12 February.
