Scientists to draft recommendations on Polesie Region development

MINSK, 14 September (BelTA) - The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) together with the Academies of Sciences of Russia, Poland and Ukraine will develop recommendations on the further development of Polesie Region, the Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov told the media on sidelines of the international conference to discuss the rational use of natural resources and sustainable development of Polesie Region, BelTA has learned.

According to Vladimir Gusakov, the conference will discuss the proposals for the development of Polesie and the rational use of natural resources in the region. “We will adopt a final document, which will incorporate the recommendations from the countries located within the Polesie Region: Belarus, Ukraine, Poland and Russia. This document will then be submitted to the governments of all four countries,” he said.

Plans have been also made to develop an international scientific program on the integrated study of Polesie. It will have two main goals: to promote conservation of unique natural sites of Polesie and the efficient use of natural resources in the region.

The conference in Minsk has brought together over 300 scientists from 5 countries: Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, and Germany. The event has been organized by the NASB, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Protection, State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus together with the Academies of Sciences of Russia, Poland and Ukraine, the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Ukraine, Ministry of Education and Science of Russia. The conference will be running until 17 September.
