Czechia, Ukraine inspect military activities in Belarus

MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) – Representatives of Czechia and Ukraine have inspected military activities in Belarus, the press service of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

In accordance with the Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty (CFE Treaty) an inspection team from Czechia visited Belarus on 11-13 October. The team also included one military inspector from Denmark, Spain, Netherlands, and the USA each. The team inspected the 72nd guards united training center for warrant officers and junior specialists. The center is subject to control in accordance with the CFE Treaty. The inspectors checked whether the armaments and materiel at the site conformed to their declared numbers in accordance with the CFE Treaty.

Apart from that, in accordance with the Belarusian-Ukrainian intergovernmental agreement on additional trust and security measures Ukrainian inspectors visited the 38th independent guards air assault brigade in Brest on 11-13 October. The inspectors were able to evaluate the information about personnel numbers, primary weapon systems and military hardware that Belarus had submitted in accordance with the 2011 Vienna Document.

The Ukrainian team also inspected an area in Belarus. The inspectors confirmed no military activities, of which Belarus is supposed to notify the other party in advance, are conducted in that area.

In accordance with the Open Skies Treaty a joint US-German observation mission carried out an observation flight over Belarus and Russia on 11-13 October using a Swedish surveillance aircraft SAAB 340 for the sake of controlling military activities.
